Commissioning oil boilers

 

All oil boilers have to be properly commissioned at startup to ensure manufactures warranty.

Boilers are now issued with a 'passport' which needs to be completed after the commissioning procedure or the manufactures warranty may be invalid.

Boiler passports will be available in all new boilers supplied by Firebird, Grant, Turkington and Warmflow from 1st September 2009 and these manufacturers will require the completion of the boiler passport and return of the commissioning certificate before a warranty is issued.

"Any failure to install the boiler correctly and non-completion of the boiler passport may invalidate the manufacturers' warranty"

This passport system has been developed with consultation with OFTEC in direct response to the recognition that incorrect installation and failure to commission is frequently the cause of a failure of the boiler - rather than an actual fault of the product.

Any future warranty will be conditional upon the correct installation of the boilers along with the completion of a Boiler Passport and the commissioning certificate being returned to the relevant manufacturer.

The burner should be adjusted for optimum combustion and thereby maximum efficiency.

The key system components such as gauges, valves, fire valves, burner and system controls must be checked for correct and safe operation. Controls should be set to their optimum settings.

The customer should be instructed on how to operate the controls, and the importance of regularly servicing the system needs to be made clear.

Suitable documentary evidence must be provided; examples are OFTEC forms for Installation CD/10 and Commissioning CD/11.

The householder should retain evidence of correct installation, commissioning and servicing of the boiler and systems
